At Whispering Willows you have real country living, peace and tranquillity at all times of the year. In spring and summer, you are surrounded by beautiful rose bushes, flower pots filled with colour, butterflies and birds singing in the meadows around you. Winter guests don’t miss out either with views of Slieve Snaght towering over the countryside with its white tip showing most of the winter.
The cottages have years of history, they were originally built in the late 1800’s, over 150 years ago as a homestead by a local landlord. They were then sold to a local family who started their family in the thatched cottage. Some of the children who were born here still live nearby.
The epic and expansive land of Donegal, with its craggy coast reaching out to greet the Atlantic, is one of the real undiscovered treasures of Ireland. Nothing shows you the Donegal way of life more than a traditional Irish cottage, where hours pass blissfully away watching the sunset over the Atlantic or sitting relaxing by a good turf fire.
Whispering Willows Cottages are perfectly set as an ideal base to enjoy an authentic Irish ‘Inishowen’ experience. No better place to stay for a while or meet friends and make memories. Here, you are spoiled for choice for things to see and do and Inishowen is at the start of the Wild Atlantic Way which aligns closely with the signposted scenic drive, known as the ‘Inishowen 100’, circling the peninsula 100 miles from beginning to end.
In many places you pass fabulous beaches and views that will take your breath away. You are nearby the most northerly point of mainland Ireland at Malin Head, an isolated place, where the coastline shows it’s wild, rugged yet beautiful side at this most northerly point and you can see the determination of the Atlantic to make and leave its mark on the country.
Besides the stunning scenery, what makes Donegal unique is the hospitality and welcome you get from the local people, the warmth is felt on even the coldest day and the smile is always genuine.
